NICOLA is very excited to announce a face-to-face conference in 2022. We cannot wait to welcome you all back and make further progress in knowledge sharing, networking and inspiring scientific best practice around our theme of Resiliency, Nature & Climate Solutions: Striving for Sustainable Land Management.

The NICOLA Annual Conference will be held at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa on the 16th – 17th November 2022.

Our Programme:

The themes for this years conference promises an engaged and energising program as we talk about sustainable innovation and resiliency in the face of global and local changes in our sphere. Our Call for Abstracts is now open and a more detailed programme for the conference will be published when finalised (anticipated August 2022).

Call for Abstracts

The call for abstracts is now CLOSED!

Abstracts are invited for presentations for the following themes:

  • Case Studies sharing the Impacts and Implications of changing climate on Contaminated Land Management
  • Incorporating climate resilience into site assessment and remediation
  • Nature based solutions for site assessment & remediation
  • Maximising sustainability (social, environment and economic) & circularity in remediation
  • Emerging Compounds of Concern
  • New and novel techniques

All accepted presenters are required to pay the technical-program registration fee at the early bird NICOLA membership rate; no financial assistance is available to support other costs of attending the Conference.

Submission information:
Authors are invited to submit their abstracts using the online form here. Authors will be required to provide the following information:

  • Abstract Title
  • Presenting Author

  • Co-author information (if applicable)

  • Body of abstract (No more than 500 words)

NICOLA 2022 is finally the event that brings us back together to actively engage on innovative ideas and developments in sustainable land management. Join us as we collaborate and network across the industry, academic and regulatory communities in striving to make a greater difference as NICOLA.

Registration Terms & Conditions
1. Early Bird registrations must be fully paid for by 19 September 2022. 2. Registrations booked after 19 September 2022, are to be paid in full 30 days after the date of the invoice. 3. Registrations made less than 30 days before the event must be paid in full prior to the event start date. 4. There is no refund or credit given for non-attendance. 5. Should you be unable to attend you are welcome to reassign your registration to another attendee who has the same registration status. Please notify admin@nicola-org to re-assign your registration. 6. Cancellations are non-refundable. Please notify admin@nicola-org if you wish to cancel. 8. There is no refund or credit given where the event has to be cancelled at short notice due to force majeure (including enforced lockdown due to COVID-19).

  • Single booth is 2m x 2m in size
  • Exhibition tables can be provided by the hotel
  • Booths will be located close to the conference presenting area
  • Exhibitors to provide own posters/banners/virtual displays
  • Exhibitor to provide any tokens they wish to distribute. Any tokens/marketing materials are encouraged to be aligned with our sustainability values.

Enhancing Our Sustainability

We want to advise delegates that the conference will be as paperless as possible, programmes and training materials will all be provided electronically.

Carbon Offsetting:

We would like to encourage our delegates to consider offsetting their carbon from travelling to the conference. The UN Carbon Offset platform is supporting a number of projects in Africa which can be found here.

Accommodation
Accommodation is available onsite at the conference venue and NICOLA has negotiated a special discounted rate for all registered delegates at R4,500 pp for single occupancy. These rates are valid for three days prior and three days after the conference (13 November – 20 November). Delegates should book directly with Mount Nelson Hotel (elzanne.chambers@belmond.com) using the code NICOLA.

International visa requirements
International delegates should consult the immigration pages of the Department of Home Affairs to determine visa requirements for entry to South Africa.
