Spill Tech is proudly a level one, 51% black-owned (31% black women owned) spill response and hazardous waste management company. Spill Tech serves many industries including petrochemical, marine, manufacturing, logistics, mining & metals, agriculture, food and beverage, and state facilities (e.g. power, fuel distribution). Spill Tech has over 70 specialized response trucks, 65 LDVs, 15 construction plant and over 100 qualified staff members including HAZMAT Technicians, Safety Officers and Environmental Specialists. We run a 24-hour manned control room from our premises which monitors every vehicle and tracks every job. We have developed a custom designed mobile app to manage all aspects of each job and report in real time.

Remediation
In 2017 Spill Tech launched Liquid Fire, a unique rapid on-site soil remediation technology. Liquid Fire involves a combination of physical and chemical treatment, where contaminated soil undergoes mechanical pre-treatment of the soil, followed by the application of a proprietary blend of chemical agents.

The Liquid Fire technology is mobile and eliminates the need to transport contaminated soil to landfills, as well as procure the required backfill material. It is many times faster than traditional onsite remediation methods, with turnaround time to reach target level compliant soils within as little as 2 days.  Liquid Fire is ideal for treating soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons and more recalcitrant compounds such as chlorinated solvents, pesticides and herbicides. We have treated over 100,000 cubic metres of contaminated soil with 100% success rate.

Industrial Cleaning
Industrial Cleaning is a rapidly growing part of the Spill Tech business. It includes UHP/HP cleaning, line draining and jetting, tank cleaning (including unmanned entry), cleaning of power stations, as well as ship hulls. Main markets are the fuel refineries, power utilities and certain manufacturing entities.

Insurance
Spill Tech is the largest environmental clean-up contractor for the insurance industry in South Africa. We have successfully responded to almost 5,000 insurance claims, servicing most of the biggest insurers. Our nationwide network of depots enables us to respond within an hour 90% of the time, therefore significantly reducing the cost of insurance claims. In addition to cleaning up the spill, we are able to provide assistance in reporting to authorities and managing the claims process.

Sillito Environmental Consulting (Pty) Ltd (SEC) was established by Adrian Sillito in 2001 and has since that time provided a range of environmental services to its loyal and expanding client base across South Africa. As a small environmental company with low management costs, we are able to provide cost effective solutions to our client’s requirements.

Our professional competence includes management of contaminated sites from initial subsurface assessment and risk assessment to remedial action plan design (including government interaction to obtain a Remediation Order) and installation and management of remedial systems. We are unusual in that we are a cross between a consultant and contractor and as such we have a good grasp of the best and most cost-effective and practical remedial solutions for a site. We continue to investigate new remedial systems and solutions which we develop until we are happy with the system performance and then roll out for use by our client base. This ongoing development keeps us abreast of the best remedial solutions and we continually strive to improve on this technology.  Our systems are portable and use limited floor space and as such are ideal for congested sites such as service stations and busy commercial and industrial sites.

Our other offerings include the provision of environmental authorisation and licensing in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, the National Environmental Management Waste Act, the National Water Act, and the National Environmental Management Air Quality Act. SEC has considerable expertise and in-house professional knowledge in all types of such applications, with staff who are EAPASA certified and competent.

SEC is also able to provide Underground Utility Scanning using a number of state-of-the-art ground probing radar units and cable detection tools. The combination of this technology allows us to accurately locate a range of detectable services to ensure the safety of our clients prior to and during excavation works.

BP SA focuses on the refining and marketing of fuels and lubricants. We process crude oil at the SAPREF refinery and manufacture lubricants at an oil blending plant located in the city of Durban. In addition to a national network of BP-branded service stations, we operate nine depots and three coastal installations, as well as the largest rail gantry in Africa located in Pretoria with planned upgrades to key depots. The upgrades will help ensure security of supply in the areas BP operate in, as well as safer and more efficient distribution through shorter road deliveries to customers, and optimised operations and improved road safety associated with shorter delivery routes. BP’s cutting-edge Fuels Technology Centre in Johannesburg further boosts the company’s ability to provide differentiated fuels to the South African market.

Our goal of achieving no damage to the environment guides our actions. We consider local conditions when determining which issues would benefit from the greatest focus.

Shell has been active in South Africa since 1902. Our main business activities in South Africa include Retail and Commercial Fuels, Lubricants and Oils, Aviation, Marine, Manufacturing and Upstream Exploration. Our head offices in South Africa are based in Johannesburg.

Our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people form the basis of the Shell General Business Principles. Shell came to South Africa in 1902. Shell South Africa’s main focus at the time was on paraffin and kerosene, which brought both light and heat to communities across Southern Africa. Throughout its long association with South Africa, Shell has played an important role in the country, not only as a premier oil company, but also as a committed corporate citizen and change agent.

Today, Shell South Africa is mainly involved in the Retail and Commercial Fuels, Lubricants and Oils, Chemicals, Manufacturing and Upstream Exploration. We have a nationwide Retail network of strategically located service stations, offering our customers a variety of fuels products, as well as friendly service and convenience shopping.

Our Commercial Fuels and Lubricants division sells diesel, lubricants, illuminating paraffin, bitumen and heavy furnace fuels directly to end users in the transport, construction, manufacturing, mining, marine, agriculture and general consumer markets.

In the Manufacturing area, the Sapref refinery, jointly owned by Shell and BP, is one of the largest refineries in Africa. In Upstream Exploration, Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. holds an exploration right in the Orange Basin Deep Water area, off the country’s west coast and has applications for shale gas exploration rights in the Karoo, in central South Africa. Other Shell interests in South Africa include Aviation, Chemicals and LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas).

Shell provides energy responsibly, helping the world move towards a future in which the energy we use causes minimal impact on our planet. We recognise the importance of climate change, along with our role in helping people to achieve and maintain a good quality of life. Our world needs energy to support and improve life for a growing population. Shell provides energy in a responsible way: we aim to limit any impact on the environment and support the transition towards a lower-carbon future.
